Yes, jail/TDC is harsh but what's even more difficult is after you get out. It's been 25 yrs since my last coviction and 22 since I was on paper/parole. Even though I have lived a completely straight/clean life and have done all I can to redeem myself, I still live in fear of people finding out about my past drug abuse/felony convictions and most employers won't hire me. It is such a problem for people who want to turn their life around, having done their time and paid their debt, but still not being able to find a job. You will never stop paying the price for your crime(s). Jail is the easy part --- the free world is where it gets hard. Hang in there and do the best you can. Stay away from people who don't respect their freedom.
